Attorney and law partner. Hennepin County attorney 1999-2006. Elected as a Democrat to the United States Senate in 2006 for the term commencing January 3, 2007. Reelected in 2012, 2018, and again in 2024 for the term ending January 3, 2031. Chair, Democratic Steering and Policy Committee (2025-). Chair, Committee on Rules and Administration (One Hundred Seventeenth and One Hundred Eighteenth Congresses). Was an unsuccessful candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020.
