C. , 1967. J. D. , Marquette University School of Law, Milwaukee, Wis. , 1970. Lawyer, private practice. Unsuccessful candidate for nomination to the One Hundred Second Congress in 1990. Member, Republican National Committee. Elected as a Republican to the One Hundred Third and to the nine succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1993-January 3, 2013). Chair, Committee on Small Business (One Hundred Seventh through One Hundred Ninth Congresses). Unsuccessful candidate for nomination to the One Hundred Thirteenth Congress in 2012.
