United States Air Force Reserve, 1984-1995. Elected as a Republican to the One Hundred Fourth and to the three succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1995-January 3, 2003). Not a candidate for reelection to the One Hundred Eighth Congress in 2002, but was an unsuccessful candidate for Governor of Tennessee.
