A Senator from Alabama. Born in Birmingham, Ala. , March 1, 1953. B. A. , Tulane University, 1975. J. D. , Tulane University Law School, 1979. Admitted to the Alabama Bar in 1981, and engaged in the practice of law in Birmingham. Attorney general of Alabama 2011-2017. Appointed as a Republican to the United States Senate to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Jefferson Sessions. Took the oath of office on February 9, 2017, and served until January 3, 2018, a successor having been chosen in a special election. Unsuccessful candidate for Republican nomination to the unexpired portion of the term.
