Attended Montana State University, Billings, Mont. , 1973-1974. B. A. , Washington State University, Pullman, Wash. , 1977. Rancher. Staff, United States Representative Ron Marlenee of Montana, 1979-1982. Member, Montana state house of representatives, 1984-1991. Montana lieutenant governor, 1991-1996. Unsuccessful candidate for the United States Senate in 1996. Elected as a Republican to the One Hundred Seventh and to the five succeeding Congresses (January 3, 2001-January 3, 2013). Not a candidate for reelection in 2012, but was an unsuccessful candidate for election to the United States Senate. Unsuccessful candidate for nomination to the One Hundred Nineteenth Congress in 2024.
