A Senator from Illinois. Born on October 20, 1960, in Elgin, Illinois, and raised in Inverness, Illinois. Attended St. Theresa Catholic Elementary School in Palatine, Illinois, and Portsmouth Abbey, a Catholic secondary school in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. A. B. , Dartmouth College 1982, graduating cum laude. Rotary Scholar, Aristotelian University, Greece 1982-1983. J. D. , University of Michigan School of Law 1986. Practiced as a corporate lawyer and general counsel in Chicago. Illinois state senator 1993-1998. Elected as a Republican to the U. S. Senate in 1998 and served from January 3, 1999, to January 3, 2005. Was not a candidate for reelection in 2004. Bank founder and chairman. Is a resident of McLean, Virginia.
