Elected as a Republican to the United States Senate in 2010, and served from January 3, 2011, to January 3, 2017. Was an unsuccessful candidate for re-election to the Senate in 2016. Elected governor of New Hampshire in 2024, and took the oath of office on January 9, 2025.
