Lamar Alexander

Chairman of the National Governors Association 1985-1986. U. S. Secretary of education 1991-1993. Elected as a Republican to the U. S. Senate in 2002. Reelected in 2008, and again in 2014, and served from January 3, 2003, to January 3, 2021. Chair, Republican Conference (2008-2012). Chair, Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (One Hundred Fourteenth through One Hundred Sixteenth Congresses). Was not a candidate for reelection to the Senate in 2020.
