Y. , 1985. Staff for United States Representative Charles Schumer of New York, 1985-1991. Member of the New York, N. Y. , city council, 1992-1998. Unsuccessful candidate for mayor of New York City, 2005. Elected as a Democrat to the One Hundred Sixth and to the six succeeding Congresses until his resignation on June 21, 2011 (January 3, 1999-June 21, 2011). Convicted on September 25, 2017, of transfer of obscene material to a minor. Sentenced to federal prison and was fined.
