S. , Mount Holyoke College, South Hadley, Mass. , 1959. Staff, New York secretary of state for economic development and neighborhood preservation. Deputy director, New York state division of economic opportunity, 1975-1985. New York state assistant secretary of state, 1985-1987. Elected as a Democrat to the One Hundred First and to the fifteen succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1989-January 3, 2021). Was not a candidate for reelection to the One Hundred Seventeenth Congress in 2020. Chair, Committee on Appropriations (One Hundred Sixteenth Congress). Died on March 15, 2025, in Harrison, N. Y.
