B. , Georgetown University, Washington, D. C. , 1975. J. D. , Georgetown University, Washington, D. C. , 1978. Business owner. United States Ambassador to the Holy See, 2005-2008. Elected as a Republican to the One Hundred Fifteenth Congress and to the succeeding Congress (January 3, 2017-January 3, 2021). Was not a candidate for reelection to the One Hundred Seventeenth Congress in 2020.
