Member of the New Mexico state house of representatives, 1997-2000. Elected as a Republican to the One Hundred Eighth and to the two succeeding Congresses (January 3, 2003-January 3, 2009). Was not a candidate for reelection to the One Hundred Eleventh Congress in 2008, but was an unsuccessful candidate for election to the United States Senate. Elected as a Republican to the One Hundred Twelfth and to the three succeeding Congresses (January 3, 2011-January 3, 2019). Was not a candidate for reelection to the One Hundred Sixteenth Congress in 2018, but was an unsuccessful candidate for Governor of New Mexico. Chair, New Mexico Republican Party, 2018-present.
