Unsuccessful candidate for nomination to the One Hundred First Congress in 1988. Elected as a Democrat to the One Hundred Second and to the fourteen succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1991-January 3, 2021). Unsuccessful candidate for reelection to the One Hundred Seventeenth Congress in 2020. Chair, Committee on Agriculture (One Hundred Tenth, One Hundred Eleventh, and One Hundred Sixteenth Congresses).
