Mex. , city council, 2005-2006. Trustee, New Mexico state natural resources, 2006. Elected as a Democrat to the One Hundred Eleventh and to the succeeding Congress (January 3, 2009-January 3, 2013). Was not a candidate for reelection to the House of Representatives but was elected as a Democrat to the United States Senate in 2012. Reelected in 2018, and again in 2024 for the term ending January 3, 2031. Chair, Joint Economic Committee (One Hundred Seventeenth and One Hundred Eighteenth Congresses).
