Elected as a Democrat to the One Hundred Sixth and to the two succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1999-January 3, 2005). Was not a candidate for reelection in 2004, but was an unsuccessful candidate for election to the United States Senate. Unsuccessful candidate for nomination to the One Hundred Sixteenth Congress in 2018.
