Member of the New York state assembly, 1975-1993. Elected as a Democrat to the One Hundred Third and to the nine succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1993-January 3, 2013). Not a candidate for reelection to the One Hundred Thirteenth Congress in 2012. Died on November 22, 2017, in Saugerties, N. Y. Interment in the grounds of the Maurice D. Hinchey Catskill Interpretive Center, Mt. Tremper, N. Y.
