Elizabeth Dole

Elected as a Republican to the U. S. Senate in 2002, and served from January 3, 2003, to January 3, 2009. Chair, National Republican Senatorial Committee (2005-2007). Was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 2008. Awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom on May 3, 2024.
