Contracts for holding and treating mentally ill detainees.
This bill would authorize the Department of Health to designate county detention facilities as qualified to detain, examine, and provide care for accused persons awaiting an examination to determine their mental competency to continue with criminal proceedings. This bill would authorize the Department of Health to enter into contracts with counties for this purpose. This bill would amend the definition of "facility" to include county jails subject to such contracts for holding and examining these accused persons.
