AN ACT to amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 5; Title 6; Title 7; Title 58, Chapter 2 and Title 58, Chapter 8, relative to emergency response.
ON APRIL 13, 2026, THE HOUSE ADOPTED AMENDMENT #1 AND PASSED HOUSE BILL 1753, AS AMENDED. AMENDMENT #1 rewrites the bill to, instead, require a local emergency management agency to annually require all employees to receive training provided by the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA) on the Mutual Aid and Emergency and Disaster Assist ance Agreement Act of 2004, and the Interlocal Cooperation Act. The completion of such training must be documented in the employee's personnel or training file and by TEMA. This amendment encourages the chief executive of each police department, sheriff's department, fire department, public works department, highway department, municipal utility, or county or municipal finance office that is a participating government entit y to designate employees to receive the above-described training provided by TEMA. Any completed training must be documented by TEMA.
