Summary

ON APRIL 2, 2026, THE HOUSE ADOPTED AMENDMENT #1 AND PASSED HOUSE BILL 1707, AS AMENDED. AMENDMENT #1 rewrites the bill to, instead, require each court to cooperate with the United States department of homeland security ("department"") and federal immigration authorities acting in the enforcement of federal immigration law. This amendment au thorizes a judge who obstructs lawful operations by the department or such authorities to be referred to the board of judicial conduct for proceedings and any findings by the board that the judge committed judicial misconduct may be cause for removal. ON APRIL 20, 2026, THE SENATE SUBSTITUTED HOUSE BILL 1707 FOR SENATE BILL 1952, ADOPTED AMENDMENT #2, AND PASSED HOUSE BILL 1707, AS AMENDED. AMENDMENT #2 removes the requirement that each court cooperate with the United States department of homeland security and federal immigration authorities acting in the enforcement of immigration law. ON APRIL 22, 2026, THE HOUSE NON-CONCURRED IN SENATE AMENDMENT #2. ON APRIL 23, 2026, THE SENATE REFUSED TO RECEDE FROM ITS ADOPTION OF SENATE AMENDMENT #2. ON APRIL 23, 2026, THE HOUSE REFUSED TO RECEDE IN ITS ACTION IN NON-CONCURRING IN SENATE AMENDMENT #2 AND APPOINTED A CONFERENCE COMMITTEE.
