Summary

This bill would create a program administered by the Maine State Housing Authority for low-income and middle-income individuals. The program would pay up to $15,000 per home purchase to reduce the interest rate of the loan for the purchase. The bill would also amend the income tax laws to allow homeowners with modified adjusted gross incomes below $60,000 to take an income tax deduction for private mortgage insurance paid on their primary residences. Income tax filers would not have to itemize deductions to be eligible for this deduction.
