Maine Senate bill in Session 132.
Status: failed. Latest action: April 29, 2026.
An Act to Establish the Child Care Employment Award.
This bill would amend the laws governing the Maine Child Care Affordability Program to provide that eligible subsidy recipients must be employed in a licensed child care facility or family child care program, their children must receive care in licensed programs, awards must be provided directly to the facility or provider and the Department of Health and Human Services may adopt rules regarding award amounts, waiting list management, quality standards and limitations on the number of children supported. It would enable the department to hire an additional staff person to oversee programming. It would also increase the program's funding from $2.5 million to $3 million annually.
