An Act to Provide Required Funding for the Reimbursement of Assigned Counsel.
This bill would provide one-time funding in fiscal years 2025-26 and 2026-27 to the Maine Commission on Public Defense Services to address an anticipated funding shortfall. The bill would also fund the development of a public defender office in Cumberland County. The new positions in Cumberland County would begin April 1, 2026.
