Admitted to the bar in 1974 and commenced the practice of law. Texas State representative, 1977-1987. Texas State senator, 1987-1993. Elected as a Democrat to the One Hundred Third and to the two succeeding Congresses and served until his death on January 30, 1997 (January 3, 1993-Januray 30, 1997). Died on January 30, 1997, in San Antonio, Tex. Interment at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, Tex. Awarded posthumously the Silver Star, 1997.
