Chairman, New Mexico Republican Party, 1962-1965. Delegate, New Mexico state Republican conventions, 1960-1970. Delegate, Republican National Convention, 1964. Elected as a Republican in 1980 as a write-in candidate to the Ninety-seventh Congress, and reelected to the ten succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1981-January 3, 2003). Not a candidate for reelection to the One Hundred Eighth Congress in 2002. Died on December 7, 2003, in Roswell, N. M. Interment in Skeen Ranch Cemetery, Picacho, N. M.
