Deputy district attorney Los Angeles County, Calif. , 1985-1990. Municipal court judge, Glendale, Calif. , 1990-1994. Member of the California state assembly, 1994-1996. Majority leader, California state assembly, 1996. Delegate to the Republican National Convention, 1996. Elected as a Republican to the One Hundred Fifth and One Hundred Sixth Congresses (January 3, 1997-January 3, 2001). One of the managers appointed by the House of Representatives in 1998 to conduct the impeachment proceedings against President William Clinton. Unsuccessful candidate for reelection to the One Hundred Seventh Congress in 2000. Undersecretary of Commerce and Director of the United States Patent and Trademark Office, 2001-2004. Judge, superior court of California, 2006 to present.
