President, Georgia Municipal Association, 1969. Administrative assistant to United States Senator Sam Nunn, 1972-1982. Elected as a Democrat to the Ninety-eighth and to the four succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1983-January 3, 1993). Unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1992 to the One Hundred Third Congress. Was a resident of Byron, Ga. , and Alexandria, Va. , until his death in Macon, Ga. , on May 29, 1999. Interment at Byron City Cemetery, Byron, Ga.
