James H. (Jimmy) Quillen

A Representative from Tennessee. Born near Kingsport, Tenn. , in Scott County, Va. , January 11, 1916. Graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School, Kingsport, Tenn. , 1934. United States Navy, 1942-1946. Newspaper publisher, 1936-1944. Business executive. Member of the Tennessee state house of representatives, 1955-1962. Delegate to the Republican National Conventions, 1956, 1964, and 1968. Bank executive. Elected as a Republican to the Eighty-eighth and to the sixteen succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1963-January 3, 1997). Was not a candidate for reelection to the One Hundred Fifth Congress in 1996. Died on November 2, 2003, in Kingsport, Tenn. Interment in Oak Hill Cemetery, Kingsport, Tenn.
