S. , Washington State University, Pullman, 1954. Served in the United States Army, enlisted, 1954-1956. Partner, Morrison Fruit Co. , Inc. Served in the Washington State house of representatives, 1966-1974. Senate, 1974-1980. Elected as a Republican to the Ninety-seventh and to the five succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1981-January 3, 1993). Was not a candidate for renomination in 1992 to the One Hundred Third Congress, but was an unsuccessful candidate for nomination for governor of Washington.
