Elected as a Republican to the Ninety-fourth Congress, but a Louisiana state court ordered a new election. Elected as a Republican to the Ninety-fourth Congress, by special election as directed by a Louisiana state court, and reelected to the five succeeding Congresses (January 7, 1975-January 3, 1987). Was not a candidate for reelection to the One Hundredth Congress in 1986, but was an unsuccessful candidate for election to the United States Senate.
