A Representative from Iowa. Born in Sioux City, Iowa, September 27, 1938. Raised on a farm near Farragut, Iowa. Graduated from Farragut High School, 1956. Served in the United States Army and Army Reserve, 1956-1964. Managed a farm equipment plant in Corsicana, Tex. , 1970-1976. Served on Corsicana City Commission, 1974-1976. Radio broadcaster and farm editor in Shenandoah, Iowa. Elected as a Republican to the Ninety-ninth and to the five succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1985-January 3, 1997). Was not a candidate in 1996 for reelection to the United States House of Representatives, but was an unsuccessful candidate for election to the United States Senate. Unsuccessful candidate for governor in 1998.
