One of the managers appointed by the House of Representatives in 1986 to conduct the impeachment proceedings against Harry E. Claiborne, judge of the United States District Court for Nevada. Chair, Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (One Hundred Third Congress). Unsuccessful candidate for reelection to the One Hundred Fourth Congress in 1994. Secretary of Agriculture, 1995-2001. Director, Institute of Politics at Harvard University, 2002-2004. Private advocate.
