Biography
A Representative from Pennsylvania. Born in Braddock, Allegheny County, Pa. , July 3, 1926. Attended Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, Pa. , 1945-1947. LL. B. , University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, Ind. , 1951. United States Navy Reserve, 1944-1946. Lawyer, private practice. Admitted to the bar in 1952 and commenced practice in Pittsburgh, Pa. Member of the Pennsylvania state senate, 1967-1968. Deputy attorney general of Pennsylvania. Allegheny County, Pa. , assistant solicitor. Elected simultaneously as a Democrat to the Ninetieth and to the Ninety-first Congress, by special election, to fill the vacancy caused by the death of United States Representative Elmer J. Holland, and reelected to the ten succeeding Congresses (November 5, 1968-January 3, 1993). Was not a candidate for reelection to the One Hundred Third Congress in 1992. Died on February 7, 2015, in Elizabeth Township, Pa. Interment at Good Shepherd Cemetery, Monroeville, Pa.
