Delegate to Democratic National Convention, 1972, 1976, 1980, 1984, 1988, 1992, and 1996. Elected as a Democrat to the Ninety-fourth and to the ten succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1975-January 3, 1997). Was not a candidate to the One Hundred Fifth Congress in 1996. Chairman, Select Committee on Aging (One Hundred Second and One Hundred Third Congresses).
