Served in United States Navy, 1955-1957. Taught high school in Shrewsbury and Spencer, Mass. , 1959-1963. Served six terms in Massachusetts house of representatives, 1963-1974. Delegate to Massachusetts State Democratic conventions, 1964-1970. Elected as a Democrat to the Ninety-fourth and to the eight succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1975-January 3, 1993). Unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1992 to the One Hundred Third Congress. Died on November 9, 2012, in Worcester, Mass. Interment at St. John's Cemetery, Worcester, Mass.
