S. , Boston University, 1970. Graduate work, Boston University, 1970. Teacher and coach, Boston public schools. Member, Massachusetts State legislature, 1973-1978. Served as assistant majority leader, 1977-1978. Elected as a Democrat to the Ninety-sixth and to the six succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1979-January 3, 1993). Was not a candidate for renomination in 1992 to the One Hundred Third Congress. U. S. Ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago, 1994-1997. Died on February 28, 2023, in East Dennis, Mass.
