Attended University of South Carolina, 1954-1958. LL. B. , University of Georgia Law School, 1965. Admitted to the South Carolina bar in 1965 and commenced practice in Edgefield. Served in the South Carolina house of representatives, 1969-1974. Delegate to South Carolina State Democratic conventions, 1972, 1974. Delegate to Democratic National Convention, 1974. Elected as a Democrat to the Ninety-fourth and to the nine succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1975-January 3, 1995). Not a candidate for reelection to the One Hundred Fourth Congress. Died on May 5, 2014, in Easley, S. C.
