Assistant U. S. Attorney 2002-2009. Chief counsel to New Jersey Governor Chris Christie 2010-2011. Attorney general of New Jersey 2012-2013. Appointed as a Republican to the United States Senate on June 6, 2013, to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Frank Lautenberg, took the oath of office on June 10, 2013. And served until October 30, 2013, a successor having been chosen in a special election. Not a candidate for election to the unexpired portion of the term.
