D. , University of Iowa, 1983. Lawyer, private practice. Elected as a Democrat to the One Hundred Tenth and to the three succeeding Congresses (January 3, 2007-January 3, 2015). Not a candidate for reelection, but was an unsuccessful candidate for election to the United States Senate in 2014.
