Summary

Seniors Mental Health Access Improvement Act of 2001 - Amends title XVIII (Medicare) of the Social Security Act (SSA), as amended by the Medicare, Medicaid, and SCHIP Benefits Improvement and Protection Act of 2000, to provide for coverage under Medicare part B (Supplementary Medical Insurance) of marriage and family therapist services generally, particularly services provided in rural health clinics and in hospice programs.

Amends SSA title XVIII part D (Miscellaneous) to provide for the exclusion of such services from the skilled nursing facility prospective payment system.

Authorizes marriage and family therapists to develop discharge plans for post-hospital services.
