AN ACT to amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 55-8-199, relative to use of a wireless telecommunications device while operating a motor vehicle.
Present law prohibits a person, while operating a motor vehicle on any road or highway in this state, from physically holding or supporting , with any part of the person's body, a (i) stand-alone electronic device or (i i ) w ireless telecommuni cations device , excluding an earpiece, headphone device, or device worn on a wrist by an adult to conduct a voice-based communication or u sing only one button on a wireless telecommunications device to initiate or terminate a voice communication . This bil l revises this provision to limit its application only to a work zone when employees of the department of transportation or construction workers are present or in a marked school zone when a warning flasher or flashers are in operation.
