Summary

Present law provides that in addition to all other motor vehicle registration fees prescribed by law, there must be paid to the department of revenue at the time the vehicle registration is renewed an additional registration fee . For hybrid electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles , such additional registration fee is determined according to the following schedule:  P rior to January 1, 2028, $100 ; and  On or after January 1, 2028, $100, adjusted to reflect annual inflation or deflation . This bill rewrites the provisions above such that, beginning on January 1, 2027, such additional registration fee will only be applied to plug-in hybrid electric vehicles.
