Summary

This act substantially amends Chapter 2B of Title 31, Code of Alabama 1975, relating to the Alabama National Guard and State Military Department, to: (1) revise the duties of State Staff Judge Advocates to include serving their respective military service component within the Alabama National Guard and not the Alabama National Guard generally; (2) revise the duties of the General Counsel to include serving the State Military Department; (3) require the Deputy General Counsel's Alabama National Guard Legal Services Manual and the Military Justice Associate General Counsel's Alabama Manual for Courts-Martial both be approved by the General Counsel prior to publication; (4) require the Contract and Fiscal Law Associate, Administrative and Civil Law Associate General Counsel, Operational Law Associate General Counsel, and Legal Assistance Associate General Counsel to supervise their respective legal areas within the Office of the General Counsel and condition each officer's respective statutorily required publication on the Adjutant General's and General Counsel's consent; and (5) provide that paralegal and warrant officers employed by the Office of General Counsel are under the General Counsel's command.
