Elected simultaneously as a Republican to the Eighty-eighth and to the Eighty-ninth Congress by special election, to fill the vacancy caused by the death of United States Representative Walter Norblad, and reelected to the four succeeding Congresses (November 3, 1964-January 3, 1975). Was not a candidate for reelection to the Ninety-fourth Congress in 1974. Died on January 28, 2009, in Portland, Oreg.
