Biography
A Representative from Nebraska. Born Virginia Dodd in Randolph, Fremont County, Iowa, June 30, 1911. Attended Manti Rural School (elementary) in Fremont County, Iowa. Graduated from Shenandoah (Iowa) High School. B. A. , University of Nebraska, Lincoln, 1936. Lecturer before agricultural and civic groups. Member, United States Department of Agriculture's Home Economics Research Advisory Committee, 1950-1960. Delegate to White House Conference on Children and Youth, 1960. Chairwoman, Presidential Task Force on Rural Development, 1971-1972. Served on Advisory Board, Educational Resources Information Center, Clearinghouse on Rural Education and Small Schools, United States Department of Health, Education, and Welfare, 1972-1974. Served on Census Advisory Committee on Agricultural Statistics, United States Department of Commerce, 1973. Delegate, Republican National Conventions, 1956-1972. Elected as a Republican to the Ninety-fourth and to the seven succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1975-January 3, 1991). Was not a candidate for renomination in 1990 to the One Hundred Second Congress. Died on January 23, 2006, in Sun City West, Ariz. Interment at Rose Hill Cemetery, Shenandoah, Iowa.
