Unsuccessful candidate for reelection to the Ninety-eighth Congress in 1982. Unsuccessful candidate for the United States Senate in 1984. Member of the Federal Council on the Aging, Washington, D. C. , 1985. Died on August 12, 1997, in Birmingham, Ala. Interment in Elmwood Cemetery, Birmingham, Ala.
