A. , Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Md. , 1973. J. D. , George Washington University, Washington, D. C. , 1975. Admitted to the Massachusetts bar, 1975, Washington, D. C. , bar, 1976, and commenced practice in Lawrence, Mass. , in 1976. Aide to United States Representative Michael Harrington and intern to United States Representative F. Bradford Morse. Elected as a Democrat to the Ninety-sixth and to the two succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1979-January 3, 1985). Was not a candidate for reelection in 1984 to the Ninety-ninth Congress but was an unsuccessful candidate for nomination to the United States Senate. Resumed the practice of law. Elected attorney general of Massachusetts in 1986 for the four-year term beginning in 1987. Is a resident of Lawrence, Mass.
