A Representative from Washington. Born in Seattle, King County, Wash. , May 5, 1925. Attended the public schools. Marietta College, 1946-1947. Served in the United States Army, 1944-1946, with rank of sergeant. Employed, Griffin Envelope Co. , Seattle, Wash. , president, 1948-1971. Member, state house of representatives, 1953-1966. Member, state senate, 1966-1970. Delegate, Republican National Convention, 1956. Elected as a Republican to the Ninety-third and to the five succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1973-January 3, 1985). Did not seek reelection to the Ninety-ninth Congress. Elected lieutenant governor of Washington in 1988. Reelected in 1992 for the four-year term beginning January 13, 1993. Died October 9, 1997, in Olympia, Wash.
