Senior vice president, trust officer, city executive of North Carolina National Bank, Greensboro, N. C. , 1964-1966. Elected as a Democrat to the Ninety-first and to the five succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1969-January 3, 1981). Chairman, Select Committee on Ethics (Ninety-fifth Congress). Unsuccessful candidate for reelection to the Ninety-seventh Congress in 1980. Was a resident of Greensboro, N. C. Until his death on April 3, 2001, in Greensboro, N. C.
