A Representative from New Jersey. Born in Perth Amboy, Middlesex County, N. J. , August 22, 1905. Attended the public schools of Perth Amboy. Graduated from the Newark Normal School in 1927, the Rutgers Law School, Newark, N. J. , in 1927, and Rutger University, New Brunswick, N. J. , in 1928. Was admitted to the bar in 1927 and began the practice of law in Perth Amboy. Teacher in the public schools of Elizabeth, N. J. , 1927-1934. Mayor of Perth Amboy, 1934-1940. County clerk, Middlesex County, 1940-1954. Secretary of state, State of New Jersey, 1954-1962. Director and counsel of the Woodbridge National Bank, 1935-1962. Elected as a Democrat to the Eighty-eighth and to the eight succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1963-January 3, 1981). Was not a candidate for reelection in 1980 to the Ninety-seventh Congress. Was a resident of Perth Amboy, N. J. , until his death on September 17, 1994. Interment at St. Mary's Cemetery, Perth Amboy, N. J.
